As part of our cardiological diagnostics, we examine the functionality of the heart and lungs and use modern treatment methods to detect problems at an early stage.

Identifying risks at an early stage

Heart and lungs put to the test

We take a close look at your heart and lungs. We make use of advanced treatment methods such as cardiac ultrasound, spirometry or ECG to gain a comprehensive insight into your health.

The examinations are usually painless and can be implemented within a few appointments.

Your doctor

Dr. Tatiana Gindensperger is a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

This is how the diagnostics work

Step 1

Initial consultation

The initial consultation with Dr. Gindensperger forms the basis for the following diagnostics. In the course of this, she discusses your medical history with you and records your symptoms.

In addition, you will be informed about the general procedure and your open questions will be answered.

Step 2

Examinations

Depending on the initial situation, we use various methods for your diagnostics. These include, among others:

  • Electrocardiography
  • Duplex sonography of the carotids
  • Echocardiography
  • 24h long-term ECG and 24h long-term blood pressure measurement
  • Cycle ergometry (exercise ECG) and spiroergometry

We select the examinations that make sense for you in advance and use them to create a customized diagnostic plan.

Step 3

Results

After completion of all examinations, we summarize them for you in an evaluation. In a final consultation, we discuss the findings with you and, if necessary, coordinate the further steps for treatment with you.

Spiroergometry

Spiroergometry is used to examine the interaction of respiration, cardiovascular system and musculature. Statements can be made about performance, fat metabolism and the health of the lungs and circulatory system.

This is because symptoms such as shortness of breath, rapid exhaustion and other signs can be caused by both heart and lung disease.

But the examination can also be useful for optimizing training ranges, for example in recreational athletes.

During spiroergometry, a lung function test is first performed. ECG electrodes are then attached to the patient, a pulse oximeter for measuring oxygen saturation is attached to a finger, and a blood pressure cuff is placed around the upper arm. Finally, a tight-fitting breathing mask is applied to the mouth and nose to analyze the respiratory gases. Breathing through this breathing gas mask is easy without resistance.

The ECG and all other measured values are continuously monitored on a monitor. During the examination, patients pedal on the bicycle ergometer. The load and the increments are determined individually according to age, body height and weight, and gender.

The pure stress time is about 8-15 minutes, the total time with connecting the ECG and the respiratory mask, pre- and post-observation is about one hour.

Our patients do not need to be fasted and should wear sports clothes and shoes.

Frequently asked questions

There are some indications for which it is advisable to perform cardiological diagnostics. These include:

  • unexplained chest pain
  • Shortness of breath, especially if this is a new occurrence
  • Leg swelling
  • Reduced performance (e.g. after viral infections)
  • elevated blood pressure
  • control of existing arterial hypertension
  • if cardiac arrhythmia is suspected (e.g. palpitations or irregular heartbeat)
  • for control after heart operations and in case of existing heart diseases

Our practice relies on selected, proven treatment methods and state-of-the-art technologies for cardiological diagnostics.

Depending on the medical history and symptoms, the following examinations may be used:

  • Electrocardiography
  • Duplex sonography of the carotids
  • Echocardiography
  • 24h long-term ECG and 24h long-term blood pressure measurement
  • Cycle ergometry (exercise ECG) and spiroergometry

Usually, no special preparation is necessary for the diagnostics. Only for the stress ECG / spiroergometry it is necessary to bring sportswear.

The cost of diagnostics varies from case to case and depends on your health history as well as the symptoms.

Depending on the scope and nature of the necessary examinations, the costs may vary accordingly. During a preliminary consultation, we will clarify the planning of the diagnostics with you and are thus able to present the anticipated costs.

In the course of diagnostics, the following diseases, among others, can be detected:

  • Structural heart disease and valvular heart disease
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Cardiac arrhythmia
  • arterial hypertension
  • Atherosclerosis in the carotid region

For a complete cardiological diagnosis, we usually schedule 3 appointments. These can be spread over a period of several weeks.

Often, we can also treat you following the diagnosis. In cases with particular complexity, we usually refer you to a specialist clinic.
